A 30-year-old mother, Deveca Rose, was found guilty on Thursday of the manslaughter of her four sons, who died in a house fire after she left them home alone to go shopping at Sainsbury’s.
Rose had left her two sets of twins in a locked terraced house when the devastating fire broke out on the evening of 16 December 2021, according to Daily Mail reports.
Rose, who had separated from her partner and struggled with mental health issues, denied the charges of manslaughter and child cruelty.
After deliberating for three hours and 22 minutes, a jury at the Old Bailey found her guilty of four counts of manslaughter by a majority of 11 to 1 but acquitted her of child cruelty.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC described the case as “tragic” and postponed sentencing until 15 November, granting Deveca Rose continued bail.
Kyson and Bryson Hoath, both four, died alongside their brothers Leyton and Logan Hoath in the fire at their home in Sutton, south London, in December 2021.
Firefighters rescued the four boys from the burning building, but all were pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
